03 October 2024

Dear CardioRhythm Africa Faculty, Presenters and Prospective Attendees,

The executive committee of the African Heart Rhythm Association has come to the difficult decision that the CardioRhythm Africa meeting scheduled  for 31 October to 2 November 2024, in Kigali Rwanda cannot go ahead as planned
The Committee today convened to discuss the outbreak of Marburg Viral Disease in the Kigali region which has resulted in illness and deaths of individuals in Kigali, many of whom are healthcare professionals working at the main King Faisal Hospital.

While acknowledging the important and organized efforts of the authorities to contain the outbreak, it remains a source of uncertainty and instability for those considering travel both to and from Kigali. In the circumstances, it is clearly impossible to hold an international convention of healthcare providers in Kigali this month.

We are informing all involved in this important meeting to hold off making arrangements to attend. For those of you who have already made arrangements, please use this communique to serve as a cancellation notice.

The Committee will continue to determine the best way to proceed with the meeting, and are discussing alternative dates and/or venues. The new meeting details will be announced in the coming week.

We remain enthusiastic about the exciting content of CardioRhythm Africa, and look forward to delivering a great meeting soon.

We extend our deepest sympathies to those in Rwanda affected by this serious illness.
